Disco Tex = Monti Rock III
Slothy's Pigeonshit offers the Disco Tex and the Sex-o-Lettes album --I prefer Slothy's title, Disco Tex and the Sex Omelets. I don't think this blog has ever referenced Monti Rock III, who was the frontman for this effort. Apparently this music was featured on an episode of the Simpsons, but nevertheless it's worthy to be included here.

Glen Glenn
Last night we had the opportunity to see Rockabilly legend Glen Glenn perform at a free concert at Heritage Park in La Verne, CA. Glen only sang a couple songs near the end of the show, but he was a lot of fun! When he said he had free photos of his smiling face for the young girls in the audience, my wife ran down and got one and he signed it for her.
Here's what Glen looked like when we saw him. He's 76 years old.
One Cup Of Coffee and A Cigarette - 2007
We also picked up a really cool book about Elvis that guitarist Alan Clark was selling. Lots of rare photos and news clippings. Alan runs The Alan Clark Archives and has other collectible books for sale. Fun story about Carl Perkins in his biography. Check it out if you get a chance or maybe pick up a book or two. More info about Glen Glenn can be found here.

Here's an original Glen Glenn recording from 1958. Not bad for a high school dropout.

Sophisticated Sissy, the Not-So-Failed Dance Craze
If you live in New Orleans you may dance the Sophisticated Sissy on a regular basis, maybe they have Sophisticated Sissy classes through the park district the way many other places have Zumba. I imagine all that backbone slippage burns the calories, I wouldn't know, the only regular exercise I get is from complaining. Home of the Groove has a lot of info about the dance and a few Sissy songs by Curley Moore and The Meters.

La Burrita
Music by Los Crazy Boys, not sure what that translates to in English exactly, I'm afraid my Spanish isn't very good. Anyway, it's a swell little number, La Burrita, just as tasty as a burrito but none of the gastric problems afterward, guaranteed.

One of The Netherlands most celebrated singers, Boudewijn de Groot in his lesser known psychedelic period:
During that period however THIS duet with Elly Nieman was a big hit:
A few years after this Elly became successful as a religious singer together with her husband Rikkert Zuyderveld.

Dooto/Dootone Records
Formed 1951 in Los Angeles, California by Walter (Dootsie) Williams, Dootone records served as a vehicle for rhythm and blues, jazz, comedy, gospel and popular music.
Although the label was responsible for some killer sides and "respectable" artists (Earth Angel - Penguins, Carl Perkins and Dexter Gordon) it was better known for its novelty "blue" records and its star, Redd Foxx.
Picked up "Laff Along with Foxx" at a garage sale this weekend and hope to burn some of the more racy tracks if the internet file sharing Nazis will allow me.
In the meantime, here is the You Tube offering, complete with some of his classic bits.

Flying Zebras and Other Ways to Blow Your Mind
Did people write horrible lyrics and perform bad music because they were taking too many drugs, or did they have to take lots of drugs because the lyrics and music were intolerable without?
Heavy.
But the liner notes have a lot of tips on how to throw an honest to gosh freak out party. In your crash pad. In Omaha Nebraska.
First put a rock and roll record on the phonograph. Turn on your TV and make the image jump in time to the music by turning the vertical knob all the way to the left or right. Now point the kaleidoscope at the TV screen. This is a guaranteed TRIP. Now play the same record at another speed. YOU ARE NOW FREAKING OUT. Enjoy it.

Death follows each time Ethel reaches for the meat cleaver
From 1975 comes this important message: do not interrupt me when I'm dining!
The Ballads of James Dean
Faster....faster....something made him keep going faster.....yes, that was our golden haired and blue-eyed boy Jimmy....Jimmy Dean. Man, there was sure a buck to be made from the death of James Dean, and Bowtie Records has got some of the crappy tribute songs that came out here. And the one below, James Dean Deck of Cards......well, it earns my "Stupid Record of the Week" award. Possibly for the next few weeks, though I will keep searching for something to beat it.

A Skin Too Few: The Days of Nick Drake
A Skin Too Few: The Days of Nick Drake (Part One, 2002, directed by Jeroen Berkvens, Flash Video 10:00). "...A study, mostly chronological, of the life of Nick Drake (1948-1974). Gabrielle, his older sister, tells us of her brother's birth in Burma, childhood in Warwickshire, life at Cambridge and in London, then back to his parents' home in Tanworth. His parents describe his habits and personality. Two friends and the producer, arranger, sound engineer, and photographer for his three albums comment. His mother, a musician and poet, is an early influence. His quiet folk style made his one tour a disaster. His lack of success and gradual withdrawal end with his death at 26."

Take it From Me, this is Probably Good
Music from the Mike Sammes Singers, so I'm guessing it has some sort of artistic merit--something I downloaded recently gave my computer a horrible virus and poor Mr. Baikinange had to wipe everything out and frankly I'm just going to wait quietly for him to get home from work to help me open the file and set up the speakers--yes I know, I am worthless. But I did point you in the direction of this (possibly) good album!

Bangin' On The Ivories
The Condor Club home of the Carol Doda (pictured) was the location of a bizarre death.
From the Associated Press, 11/25/83:
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A nude, screaming dancer found trapped under a man's crushed body on a trick piano that became pinned against a nightclub ceiling was too drunk to remember how she got there, police said.
Authorities on Thursday said they were awaiting the results of an autopsy on James (Jimmy the Beard) Ferrozzo, 40.
His fully-clothed body was found on top of Teresa Hill, 23, a dancer at the Condor Club where Ferrozzo was an assistant manager. Detectives would not speculate on the circumstances of the death.
Ferrozzo probably saved the woman's life with a last-second kick that cut the switch on the motorized piano hoist, said fire Lt. Jim Lyons, whose rescue crew was called to the club. The body provided two or three inches of cushion that kept the woman from being crushed, he said.
The baby grand piano had been used for almost 20 years by entertainer Carol Doda, who made her entrance by reclining across the instrument while it was lowered by cable to the stage of the topless club.
"If I were to speculate on the cause of death, it would be asphyxiation as a result of being crushed," Detective Guinther Whitey said.
Police discovered shards of glass and blood spattered in the club. A little blood was found by the bar, but Detective Guinther Whitey said he couldn't be sure where it came from. "The young lady had a couple of cuts on her hand," he said.
The dancer said she had been dating Ferrozzo since her arrival in San Francisco two weeks ago.
No one is certain what caused the piano to rise toward the 12-foot-high ceiling, but something or someone may have bumped the switch, on the wall near the piano, Detective Marvin Dean said.
"I don't see how this could possibly have happened," said a young woman who identified herself as Desiree, a dancer at the club.
"When you get on the piano, it goes up so slow, they should have noticed it," she said. "They could have jumped off."
Hill was rescued after someone heard her shouts for help.
"She was so intoxicated she doesn't even remember getting on the piano," Whitey said. "She just remembers waking up and being pinned on the piano."
Hill was treated for bruises at a hospital.

Times are tough all over, and PCL is compelled to accept regular advertisers to be able to meet its giant payroll and liquor bill at PCL Central. So we are proud to welcome Hillbilly Bread as our new sponsor! I have learned to love the Hillbilly Bread vest that I am now required to wear publicly, despite my preternatural loathing of the color yellow. We recommend you eat 4 loaves a day!

Feminarium
Frits Jonker: I have no idea how many pages material i have for my “Feminarium”, as i have i called my scrapbook with pictures of women that i like because they look strong, sexy, attractive or intriguing. A large part of the picturse and pages is still missing. It must be somewhere in the house, but miss-filed. An even bigger part exists in the form of little red books. For many years i tried to describe the pictures in these little red books. I gave that up: it is better to let the images speak for themselves. I will try to re-use the picturse in these little red books fir the Feminarium, but that is something for later, when i have nothing else to do.
Here are some recent pages:
