Ed Lincoln and HIs Grooooovy Organ

Yes, I think I have discovered the groovy-liciousness of keyboardist Ed Lincoln a lot later than most of the conoscenti....and I can live with that.....but it doesn't mean that I can't try to convert the few of you who don't about his great music to give it a listen.

Not least of the great things about this 1968 album is the Portuguese spelling of "Sack o' Woe" as "Saca-Uo". Update your Portuguese-English dictionaries accordingly.

From Suriname: Orchestra Washboard

My favorite blogs are those created from pure passion for music. A comment left by Ben the Balladeer on my blog led me to his collection of music from (presumably) his homeland Sweet Suriname. Listening to the piece from Orchestra Washboard called "Langa Bere" was only enhanced by his description of what it was like to see them perform live.

Orchestra Washboard to me is on(e) of the best traditional bands ever from Suriname. It consisted of some of the best musicians Suriname had to offer.
This group was immensely popular and they did not know how to stop when they got started and the party was going, that's how this song came to life, improvised just to keep the party going and it kept evolving every time, consisting of traditional Suriname songs from way back passed on by earlier music generation.

Washboard mostly played at house parties in the early years. I cherries the memories I have regarding this band in connection with my grandmothers 70th birthday, they played like crazy that night and I've never heard "Langa Bere" played better then they did that night.
"Langa Bere" is a saying we use in Suriname for something that keeps on going and going. It can also mean boring, but listening you'll know it's not the case with this song.

Updaterat: Det verkar minsju som om WFMU-posten försvunnit/tagits bort. Synd!
Note: WFMU's post is gone, and I have no idea why. What a shame!

"El Bimbo" composed by the Afghan musician and singer Ahmad Zahir and discofied by the French unit under the name of Bimbo Jet back in 1975.

Here is also a version by Santo & Johnny (thanks to Mother Chimney!)

To wrap this entry up nicely we have Ahmad Zahir's own original song, "Tanha Shodam Tanha" (a a nice video with some original photage of Zahir himself).

Classy Fred Blassie

Hard to believe that the legend that was Fred Blassie would've celebrated his 90th birthday a few weeks back. If he had lived to celebrate this milestone, no doubt he would've pooh poohed the whole longevity thing and spent the day berating anyone who had the audacity to inquire as to the secret to a long life. Sadly Fred passed at age 86 and we are left with sweet memories of this titan of the squared circle.
All hail the "Hollywood Fashion Plate"

His legendary accomplishments in the ring included the infamous 1962 feud with Japanese wrestling icon Rikidozan. Employing his gimmick of filing his teeth and gnawing on the Japanese hero's forehead and drawing massive amounts of blood, legend has it that this sight gave many viewers heart attacks and some reportedly croaked on the spot.

Of equal note is his stellar recording career which produced the seminal LP King of Men in 1977. As noted in the liner notes, "Although this is his first disc, he is already far and away the best singer in the country and will beat the crap out of anyone who disagrees"

Who doesn't love a blog that can respond to a reader request for popular music about the A-bomb? With not one or two tunes, but seven....from a variety of artists, including Slim Gaillard, Ray McKinley, gospel's Golden Gate Quartet, and Gene Krupa. I imagine twindowlicker is someone who has lived at the same address for a great many years. As I have found, moving around a lot and a large collections of 78s are not compatible.

Typsiesque music by Dan Deacon - My Name Is Robert

"These slides and photographs came from many estate sales. They were dusty, darkened, bent, underexposed (some damaged by water) and were destined to be trash. Through the help of Photoshop, they can be seen once again...Interesting story here from what I can piece together. This is a family, Elton (the son), Mother Lorraine and Dad Basil, also called Rudy. Dad owned a shop in Huntington Beach, California called HB Electric. Each year they took a train tour of NY, Indiana, Rockies, etc. I bought over 1500 slides that chronicled all years between 1953 and 1968."

TOYAH - THUNDER IN THE MOUNTAINS

It's sort of like a remake of Mad Max starring Siouxsie Sioux, as envisioned by Marc Jacobs and produced at Cable Access TV. Or something.

Toyah also stars in one of my favorite movies, Derek Jarman's Jubilee.

Luie Luie creator of "Touchy" (Companion Records)

boomp3.com
boomp3.com

"Some years ago, a Los Angeles area collector stumbled across an orphaned copy of the "Touchy" in a thrift store. It was shared through tape trading networks and bootlegged on vinyl -- now, Companion Records is proudly offering this first official "Touchy" CD release.
Luie Luie has to be the most jaw-dropping one-man-band lounge act found to date. The "Touchy" serves as an conceptual dance album, an experimental album, as well as a sort of healing LP for '60s burn-outs. What can his music be compared to? Nothing that we know of. Be sure and check out the must hear MP3s below."

Spread The Good Good PCL !!!!

PCL Readers !

Reverend Frost here.

Oh my bloody God, I can't believe I'd sell my soul to join this devilish organisation.

Its leader known as 'mrdantefontana' asked me (no wait, forced me) to join his evil team.
And hell, I'm no good when it comes to temptation.

Anyway, if you don't know me yet (poor you), I'm the guy/thing behind the blog
'SPREAD THE GOOD WORD !, a simple god-blessed and millionaire musician who just wanted to share his musical tastes to this side of hell in the first place, and, frankly, I don't exactly know what the hell happened, but I'm still here.

Well, so here I am.
Helping my new PCL Brothers to spread DA good word.

Folks, I bid you welcome.
And wish me luck, these guys are mad.
No wait, I'm madder.

From Purgatory with love,
Rev. Frost
