Kali Bahlu

Good grief. This might be the most annoying record I have ever listened to. Hippie/New Age/Cosmik Debris warbled by a drug induced flower child/devil spawn.
Exhibit A on the evils of psychedelics.

More hippies

I'm not a specialist in this matter, nor do I have the time to specialize now. Also they're not from a website or anything. I just found them while hacking my away around the wireless networks in my neigbourhood ;)

Flying Zebras and Other Ways to Blow Your Mind

Did people write horrible lyrics and perform bad music because they were taking too many drugs, or did they have to take lots of drugs because the lyrics and music were intolerable without?

Heavy.

But the liner notes have a lot of tips on how to throw an honest to gosh freak out party. In your crash pad. In Omaha Nebraska.

First put a rock and roll record on the phonograph. Turn on your TV and make the image jump in time to the music by turning the vertical knob all the way to the left or right. Now point the kaleidoscope at the TV screen. This is a guaranteed TRIP. Now play the same record at another speed. YOU ARE NOW FREAKING OUT. Enjoy it.

Canary to Parents: Leave the Hippie Beatniks alone!

Really this album with Canary/Duke/Fighter/Blakie should be called This is Soca! instead of This is Calypso! And this song about the misunderstood Beatnik Generation refers to hippies. Musta been a hell of a party depicted on the album cover to cause such excessive metaphor-mixing.

Nature Boy

Singer/songwriter eden ahbez (lower case by his choice) was one of the first California granola hippies, sporting long hair and beard and eating a raw food diet back in the early 1940s. When Nat King Cole's cover of ahbez' "Nature Boy" hit the charts in a big way in 1948, the song's composer was found by the media living underneath the famed Hollywood sign.

On this album from Roller Ship ahbez sings of mynah birds, snakes being chased by mongooses, and his banana, in no particular order of significance.

(The blog also offers a complete album by The Peanuts, of Mothra fame, another reason to visit.)

MUCH BETTER THAN THE "CHARLIE AND THE SPAHN RANCHERS" ALBUM

I loves me some hippie monkeyshines and this little 1969 doped up doozy is a peach. A touch psycho-delicate, a wee bit proggy, and all freaky- this slab o weed whacked wax winds itself round yer yarbles like a PCP laced lemonade! I mean I digs it righteously! This pot powered pop is for you, Percy! Laid on ya by my beautiful brother at TYME-MACHINE. Search and find free-lovers!
