I learned this song initially from my 45 in the 80s ( i only performed it once or twice...frankly I was scared of the reaction from the audience)then nailed it when the Rykodisc Elvis Costello reissue of 'Almost Blue' came out. It took me years to find Eddie Noack's version (thanks initially to the crazy 'Wavy Gravy' mix), then also Jack Kittel's version. There are a couple contemporary takes worth checking out: Rudi Protrudi (from..."It's A White Trash Thing") and Andre Williams with The Sadies (from 'Red Dirt') then last years I found a CHRISTMAS variation (!) by Thirsty Dave's Western Caravan. THAT was a surprise. I still pull 'Psycho' out at Ralloween and the occasional open mike. It never fails to get swnickers and then I know who the sick bastards in the audience are and go up to the m and ask them to buy me a beer.
