Eyeball Fun - Hey Ange!
This first film is an archive.org special, so watch it and bone-up to what your eyes are all about. Related to it my mother was walking through downtown Chicago when she was young, (1935-45, she had me late) and got a piece of steel in her eye from a construction site, which was removed with a strong magnet. It left her iris permanently stained and she had one green and one blue eye as a result.
Next up is part one of Un Chien Andalou. I saw this in college, in a film class, but I already knew what was coming at the 1:05 mark. A couple of years later, I went to see David Bowie (the tour after Stage) and he opened the show with it. The audience were seemingly not film students/buffs, because when the razor scene happened the entire Philadelphia Spectrum screamed like someone had opened fire on them from the stage. Needless to say the crowd spent the remaining 11 minutes somewhere between recovery and WTF?!?!
Lastly, here is one of my eyes, for you to use as a reference:
Reference, for what I dunno, but have it.
Hooray for she-who-sees-all! (and gripes about it)

Copenhagen
"And our love is an antique song
For children's carousels"
That's the moral of the beautiful Scott Walker song Copenhagen. And I guess those words are a nice way to sum up my feelings after the first ever big PCL summit.
When baikinange and yours truly (yes, that's mrdantefontana to you) met in Copenhagen this Friday it was only the second time ever I met somone befriended on the internets. It's not that I'm overly shy. It's just like that most people I've learned to know and love live far away in distant underdeveloped countries.
Don't you know that Sweden is the center of the world?
And another reason behind my obscurity is probably the fact that you all are crazy as hell and I don't want to get infected.
But let me tell you, Ange and I, had some swell hours.
It's difficult to describe my feelings because PCL has been such an important thing for me during the six years I have been doing this. Between 2004-2007 I blogged myself through hell and back again. The power suddenly left me in the dark. I had no visions, no urge, no stamina at all to make me continue what I started here. Though I still loved and cherished these pages I didn't have it in me no more. But friends come to the rescue.
First it was as guest bloggers - then as regular contributors.
I love you all for helping PCL continue it's mission. But most of all I love Ange for coming along almost adopting PCL, breathing new life into the old weary ghost.
Baikinange is now co-managing the blog with me. But, seriously, this blog is hers as much as mine. So it was a delight meeting this person describing herself so very refined and detailed: "I will be wearing black and I look sarcastic."
It turned out to be no problem.
We had alot to talk about, and we shared some good laughs. No photos were taken. Let me tell you we both dress in black and look sarcastic. Get the picture?
But this happened. It really did!

Holy Days
Passover? Easter?
Occasions to celebrate and reflect for many in our world.
At PCL headquarters, March 30th marks another very special occasion. A time to hoist the Faygo and Fluffernutter sandwiches and rejoice in the birthing day of one Baikinange Overkill.
In the spirit of Ange's special day, I invite all our loyal readers to post photo's/video's and reflections of the blessed innocent as offerings to this spiritual day.
Happy Day Ms. Overkill.

Lots of stuff to do.
Label buttons are restored. Halo Scan commenting is back (that means if you have left a comment last hours it is gone).
Hey! BTW! We've got ourselves a new manager!
Baikinange has stepped up to help me do the job I have been slacking big time lately with.
I love her for that and is so utterly grateful.
Ange and I will work out the changes to come. Stuff will happen. Links will be thrown away. New stuff will explode in your face.
But, the bottom line is, she will then more or less be captain of this ship until I come back permanently. This is seriously good news. She will be here. Baikinange is the BOSS. Do not mess with her.
She and I will update you how everything is progressing.

Lex10's Hip Pocket Records
75% of 'em anyway.... we used to play them on my friend's stolen-from-school player, that had no automatic features, so it wouldn't reset if it got too close to the spindle, and a 5 lb. tonearm. Regular players couldn't handle 'em.

Happy out-of-the-womb-day, Baikinange!
I thought about knitting you a space helmet for your birthday. But then I realized you probably only want the real thing. And, to be honest, knitting was ... a long time ago. It's so 1980s.
So I come up with nothing.
Then I thought about coming up with a nice long speech full of wit and complicated words.
To be a honest such a speech would probably sound best in Swedish if I was to write one.
Luckily there have been poets like Johnny Mercer who really knew how to put down the words ... and still ... he had problems.

Above track was taken from this great album.
You marvelously cope with us boys being boys on a daily basis here and still carve out some of the best pop cultural posts in this environment and in the whole blogosphere.
I am proud to say: Baikinange is on my team. Not yours. Mine!
Anyway, Ange, You are the best!

From the Baikinange Collection
Valentino painting
I'm a big fan of thrift store art, the fruits of the labors of well-meaning but often talent-starved artists. I was lucky enough to find a few charmingly bad paintings at an estate sale some years back, and have displayed them proudly for years (much to the chagrin of my loved ones). I paid a buck each for them, maybe you think I was robbed.

A cut above the typical thrift store fare (meaning, I paid somewhat more than a buck for it) is this circus painting by Illinois artist Louise Woodroofe.

Apparently Louise was quite a pistol. She had a backstage pass to Ringling Brothers circus for years, and spent much of her life as an art professor at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, and died at a ripe old age (over 100). A short history of the life and art of Louise Woodroofe can be found here.

Calypso Music of Trinidad from 1930s - 1940s
I followed baikinange into the The Roots Music Listening Room. I thought I maybe could catch a glimpse of her swinging her hips to some wild cajun track and maybe steal a dance or two. But, to my disappointment, no. She just sat there with her headphones on in a world of her own dreaming of Atilla the Hun, Sir Lancelot and Wilmoth Houdini and other old kings of the Trinidad calypso 1930s - 1940.Well, maybe next time. When the competition is a little less heroic.
