Ah So!

It's times like these I wish I had a convertible and could blast my song of the week for the world to hear, Ah So by the Highlights. Leaving in my wake a trail of faintly offended and puzzled folks, which is pretty much what happens all the time anyway.

évariste

Another obscure french screaming artist from the sixties: Evariste (Joël Sternheimer), a 23 years old scientist, who decided to sing in order to pay his own research in theoretical physics as the U.S. had cut off the credits because of the Vietnam War.
His songs are always cynical and hilarious. "La Révolution" is a perfect exemple, i love him as much as Hector (see previous post)

Nashville Pussy - A review

NASHVILLE PUSSY

What can I say?
Nuthin.

Oh well- yes I can.

Last year we walked in late to their opening set at that Horton Heat show. We vowed then & there that we'd see 'em again.

Parade magazine will never feature them. Wayne Cochran is your mother compared to them. Wait, Stiv Bators is your mother compared to them.
They will never be lying on their death beds asking themselves "What was that all about?"
Their show is a full-on 100% Screaming Mimi (or screaming Meemie) assault on the very existence of rock n' roll. If they worked in a grocery store, You'd be greeted at the door, every item would be exactly where it belonged with the right prices, the floors would be immaculate and the produce fresh, and you would zoom through checkout. That's how hard they work. Like hard workin' bastards, who are forestalling their executions by playing for the Governor.

The staging is flawless: they look at each other, and blast! things happen right on cue. The drama don't stop. It's intuitive but looks well thought out.

The last song, Ruyter tore the strings off her guitar - when I asked Blaine how she manages to do that, he replied, "Hey she's got great chops."

Amen.

Phonecam doesn't do it justice, obviously, & I lost 2 closeups while talking to band members (forgot to hit save) so I have adulterated, to give an impression. Maybe successful.

Special show treat: Blaine sings Ace of Spades with Reverend Horton Heat

Go.

I Rock

I Rock, you all know that, but Henry Fiat's Open Sore's new video rocks too. And is a good way to clean up the mess from our (read: our Swedish) gold-booted past.

Jerry Williams - Just A Little Bit of You

The old swedish lady says: "You look like you have to pee. I can take you if you want?"
The younger swedish lady says: "You look like you have to pee. ... Come."

This track was taken from Jerry's 1968 record 'Power of Soul' .

Swedes, ... you know!

Beatniks and Hipsters '71

Chris at Ultra Swank has another one his nicely packaged high quality compilations up. This time he's been sniffing some oriental incenses ...
" ... As the title suggests we are moving away from lush cocktail parties, stewardesses and martinis for a while to go down one flight of stairs into the world of swingers, beatniks, hipsters and cool cats. Welcome to the Electric Psychedelic Swingers Pussycat Club downtown London, were we play psychedelic rock and pop from the late '60s and early '70s until the break of dawn. ..."

What Iggy Wants ,,,,,,,Iggy Gets!

The Smoking Gun has a very funny concert rider for the Stooges tour.

Excerpt:

It's not that it's just funny, one gets the impression that Iggy's a good boss, and it also provides insights as to how all that stuff gets set up, and why some concerts can really suck.

REVEVEREND ORGANDRUM

I gotta tell ya - I LOVE the Reverend Horton Heat. He's my fave, and every year, I go see him play, with dedication to the task, creativity in the set, and cool radiating off him like the stink waves on a cartoon cat's ass. Jimbo, too!

Brian Setzer can shove his stilted view of rockabilly up his precious little swing-dancing-at-Christmas-ass. *puke*

Now, the Rev has put together this new album of hits with two friends that have formidable accomplishments in the fields of drumming and organ playing. A little shift to the left that provides friggin' deliciousness of the first order.

Next, I want say I fucking HATE MySpace - it's shit for the clueless, on a platter of stupidity. UnfortunatEly, it's also a valuable tool for musicians trying to seduce the half-witted Rubes into tasting their wares.

HAVING SAID THAT, the Rev has got a MySpace for the entity known as Reverend Organdrum, this collaboration that showcases not only his, but his organ player's and drummer's skills as well. So I linked it because it's got cuts. I also am linking to his Yep Roc Records page as well as his OFFICIAL web page to allow you to listen to some other cuts as well as gain insights.

"A Shot In the Dark" "Ain't That a Kick In the Head" "Time is Tight" and "route 66" are all there.

All I can say is..............fuck.

With Much Love,
Lex10

Yeah, I'm gushing......jealous?

Go listen, saddle pals.

This Week's My New Favorite Band

Hey- I know you're all hipper than me and this is probably over for you all already, but there's seven (okay, maybe more, maybe less) deadly Finns, and they define the essence of ROCK (make gesture with clenched fist and flexed forearm). For me, their music transcends the gag, because their arrangements are so comprehensively perfect. Also the Elvis hubcap belt buckle, beehives, real russian balalaika players, skeleton minidresses, ubersquiffs, and african drummers don't hurt, either.
