I've found the secret to life with this web project.

"I had an ex that used to play lottery scratch cards every week. Most weeks she lost. Some weeks she won a few bucks. It got me thinking about the whole lottery thing - getting your hopes high, dreaming, escaping, and then usually being let down.
This happens to me on a daily basis WITHOUT the lottery's help, so I find the whole thing funny. I didn't need the lottery messing with my life. So as an experiment, I started buying scratch cards and not scratching them."

Cut up prose from pulp paperback covers

"... For ten years or more I collected sleaze/trash/pulp paperbacks published in the 1950s to '70s, mainly for the lurid cover art and cover blurbs. I ended up with almost a thousand, a few of the covers can be seen on flickr . The bulk of the collection went when I moved on to the boat, but one day late last century I had the idea to work the cover blurbs into some form of text piece. "Bonnie", my second attempt, came from the covers of various publishers' books, and I juggled them around until I was happy, keeping the individual quotes intact.

Thirty Books - Except Their Secrets... This was the first attempt at building prose/poetry from trashy paperback cover blurb. These all came from the same publisher, Softcover Library. The distinguishing traits of their books seemed to be a colour photo of a topless woman on the front cover but no sexual content in the actual text. I sat at the pc with all my Softcover Library copies in a box, pulling them out one by one and keying in the cover text, with the intention of shaping them into something later. There was no need. "Thirty Books" is the text in exactly the order the books came out of the box. I saw it made poetic sense with no intervention from me. It was thrilling. ..."

Wheelie Bin Gallery

"This is our wheelie bin - a dull run-of-the-mill green receptacle for our household rubbish. I'm hoping you will help me to decorate it with stickers and mail art (no larger than A4 ) and amaze the refuse collectors (and our neighbours) each fortnight when they come to collect it. All mail must be weatherproof and adhesive. I will document the progress here on this blog. Would love to get the whole thing covered by March 2009. Please help!

The Graffiti Project at Kelburn Castle

The Graffiti Project at Kelburn Castle, starting May 12, 2007. "...We are bringing together four of the world’s leading graffiti artists from Brazil, Os Gemeos, Nina Pandolfo and Nunca to work alongside Scottish talent, to create a unique burst of colour, embracing the walls and turrets of the south side of Kelburn Castle.
The project will involve the artists and organizers living together in the Castle for approximately one month, documented by various forms of media. The artists will have time to share and explore new ideas culminating in a one-off, giant piece of collaborative art."

Another 365 days!

The 365 Days Project is back to share once more and the second time around it's happening right smack dab here every single day of 2007.

In 2003 I organized the first 365 Days with over 70 people sharing from their stash of aural treats. Same thing this year with new and old contributors. The only change in 2007 is that everyday can feature more then just one mp3 (as server space was tight four years ago). So look for single songs to full albums shared by a host of contributors. Sharing from their collections in January will be: The Bomarr Monk, Clayton Counts, Pea Hix, Oddio Katya, Michel LeGrisbi, Rocketboy, Strictly Kev, B.C. Sterrett, Mimi la Twisteuse and more.

To start off the year I'm going to backtrack (continue reading below the jump) to the first 365 Days and feature two full recordings instead of the excerpts provided in 2003. No need to write about the recordings as they speak for themselves. Shall we go?
