I am a child of the 80's and I haven't the foggiest how I missed out on these (Ebay, here I come!). According to Bob Heffner and his nifty BOB'S DINOSAURS ATTACK! page, Topps released this MARS ATTACKS inspired, dino-gruesome card set in 1988.

Pandemonium!

Ok, PCL has once again, been invaded.
Right now we've got a crazy gorilla man lose in the building. And, he's not only crazy, he needs - as the always very sharp observer Lex 10 (he's got a great eye for details!) points out - a haircut. And quite possibly some clothes. Fortunatley the other new member Bella Bliss, probably can fix him up. A vintage suit and a very big hat would be nice. Untill we get everything under control here at The PCL Headquarters we blame Communism, Hypnotism and the Beatles, as always!!!

It has been said but its about time we communicate this seriously important message once more: "Throw your Beatle and rock and roll records in the city dump. We have been unashamed of being labeled a Christian nation; let’s make sure four mop-headed anti-Christ beatniks don’t destroy our children’s emotional and mental stability and ultimately destroy our nation as Plato warned in his Republic. I AM THE GORILLA MAN!
From the twisted jungles of my psyche shamble the hulking, slavering simians of forgotten popular culture, creatures borne forth from musty funny books and warped frames of scratched and eroded film.
Several years ago COMIC BOOK GORILLARAMA began with a desire to kill a little time and became an obssession to thoroughly gather any comic book cover featuring an ape of any sort.
Exploring a casual whim to find a few photos of cinematic apes for CBG, my simple errand quickly refocused into a zealous quest to learn all that could be known about the enigmatic GORILLA MEN who tromped about the wilds of early cinema. GORILLA MEN continues to be the main focus of my web efforts, where I share all sorts of simian pop culture goodness yet I always gravitate back to the tales and films of the rare men who became beasts.
GORILLA MEN also begat another site that is a work of great pride. Few know the name Charles Gemora, but good ol' Charlie arrived in Hollywood in the throes of an entertainment revolution in the 1920's on a freighter from the Philippines. Over the next 40 years, Charles would carve an impressive path through the effects houses of the Great Studios, all the while terrifying and amusing audiences as the premier Hollywood Gorilla Man. With the cooperation of his surviving daughter (who aided her father in creating the Martian of the classic WAR OF THE WORLDS), Diana and I have jointly contributed to CHARLES GEMORA -HOLLYWOOD GORILLA MAN.
And now, what the Sam Hill am I doing here?
I am more than just a GORILLA MAN.
Though I will inflict my hairy obession upon these pages on a regular basis, I also look forward to having a venue to share some of the other oddities I come across, whether from the confines of my Gorilla Den or from my wanderings....out there...

William Claxton

William Claxton died Saturday. His LA Times obit says he "helped make Chet Baker famous" but he did a lot more than that - he changed the static face of music photography and made everyone he shot look good.

WFMU Record Fair

One of my favorite things to do is the
WFMU Record Fair. This year, it's from Friday, October 24 thru Sunday, the 26th. I can't make it this year, because I have to work, but, I sure hope you all can go and get some records.

WFMU had introduced me to some great music throughout the years. Stuff like:

1. Cristina, too performance art for disco, too disco for the art world. She did a duet with Kevin Kline. (Disco clone). She also did a cover of "Is That All There Is?"

The name is Bella Bliss. I'm a brand new contributor to pcl. I dig clothing, especially vintage or diy designers. I'm a Jersey Girl,born and bred, but spend most of my time in NYC. I grew up in a musical family, but I only know how to play the radio. That being said, when I was four, I was supposedly a great harmonica player. What happened? I started sewing.

I'm planning to interview people with cool jobs, tell you some funny stories about pop culture and goofy stuff I done because of it.

I read voraciously. I don't sleep enough.
