The Synthesizer Sound Machine

Since synthesizer music is, by definition, annoying and pointless, performing such classic tunes as ":Mouldy Old Dough" and poppy versions of Mozart melodies (an annoying subgenre to itself) on synthesizer is overkill. But since Overkill is now my married name (Native American/Indonesian, he is) that means aural bliss, courtesy of the Synthesizer Sound Machine, courtesy of Funky Frolic. That is, until I realize "Kree-rist I've been listening to seventies synth-pop for over an hour now" and promptly delete it forever.

Mistral - Neon City (NL 1978)

Mistral was a studio project by Robbie van Leeuwen's . Van Leeuwen was one of the founders of Shocking Blue (of the world hit: Venus). Also Rick van der Linden (1946-2006), founding member of Ekseption, played a main part in Mistral. The group had several lead singers. In this clip you can see/hear both Mariska Veres, lead singer and face of Shocking Blue and Marjan Schattelijn. It's probably the only time Mistral appeared as a real popgroup in front of an audience

Hyper Plastic (MySpace) is a Swedish one man act with a nice lo-fi electronica beat and an excellent eye for the important things in life we usually pay no or a minimum of attention to.
Like a song about "40 year old daddies on lawnmovers" with witty (but also with an all over scary based-on-a-true-story feeling to it) and intelligent lyrics:
