A portuguese label (no smoke records) released this LP a few days ago. Shame on the french record industry!

The Keggs - To Find Out (1967)

I'm jazzed that the bass player is my brother-in-law! Cool.


The Royal Cavaliers were a 60's rock group from Kutztown, Pennsylvania. The band featured Kevin Snyder on guitar, Steve Haring on keyboard, Randy Hoffman on bass, Richard Gaugler on drums and Randy Schlegel on lead guitar. They cut two demo tracks of original tunes, "Was It Love?" and "I'll Try Again", both produced by engineer/entrepreneur Clay Barclay in 1966. Barclay recorded many Eastern PA bands in a recording studio based in his parents' Orwigsburg, PA home and later relocating to Reading, PA. His facilities captured the top regional acts, producing over two dozen highly-coveted 7-inch singles.

Both songs appeared on a CD compilation, "Eastern PA Rock, Part Two" released and is still available on ARF! ARF! RECORDS. Check out their site, it's filled with a lot of cool and rare stuff, if you like it, buy a CD or two and support the small labels!

The 3D Invisibles and old Detroit handbills

Growing up young, dumb, and punk in Detroit wasn't always a picnic, but there was an upside, the music. For me, in the early to mid 80's Hamtramck, a mostly Polish neighborhood of Detroit, was the place to be. Especially when the 3D Invisibles played. A Garage trio which exalted B movie horror aesthetics. Led by video store clerk Creepy Rick. A cross between Lux Interior and Buddy Holly. All: To pick up girls!

Correct. And if you want to attract cool babes and not geeky girls with orthopedic shoes and scabby elbows, what is the first important thing you need to do?

All: Choose a cool band name!

Granted, the members of Schibbinz were between the ages of 15 and 17 when "Livin' Free" was recorded--American kids who inexplicably recorded this in Argentina. Along with a local guitarist who went on to direct the Symphonic Orchestra of Cordoba. Or at least that's what comes up when I hit the "translate" button on this Garage Latino blog entry, for all I know it may actually say they were snacking on lead paint chips in the recording studio, which might account for band name, as well as why they did a cover version of the song only grandpas like, "Ghost Riders in the Sky".

London was swinging, the Byrds soared on the wings of their most innovative single, "Eight Miles High," Brian Wilson labored in the studio on a legendary lost masterpiece and the Yardbirds fronted the mightiest lineup in rock n roll, with Messrs. Beck and Page on dual lead guitars. But from Germany there came dark rumblings that hadn’t been heard since the Nuremberg Rallies of the 1930s. Guitar and organ howled in orgiastic competition as a thunderous tribal beat bludgeoned song structures into strange forms. Rhythmic cadences echoed the slap of jackboots goose-stepping down Berlin’s boulevards. There were also strained and shrill vocals, eerily reminiscent of a sputtering orator disposed of only 20 years before in the ruins of the Reich Chancellery’s garden."
