Tour de France caravans

I loved all the images from this 6 year old article from some cycling online magazine about the corporate caravans during the Tour de France. Take a look here before they realize they still have it posted after all this time, and take it down.

The description on Yvette's caravan says, "Yvette Horner, a French accordionist has participated to 11 Tours de France....In towns she was playing on the top of the roof of the Citroen traction. Between towns, a dummy figure took her place. Some years later the system has been improved, Yvette was behind a glass to protect her from the insects."

Hi-Fi Masterpiece

There are so many gems on this crappy-kitsch Hi-Fi Masterpiece (it says so on the back cover, so it MUST be true) I had trouble deciding which to use as an example. De Kermisklanten - Crazy Accordeon

They were Dutch, they were married, they were known by almost everybody in the Netherlands and Germany. They were Henny and Coby Voskuilen, better know as De Kermisklanten, translated roughly as "The Village Fair Busters". Henny died about year ago.
I don't particulary like this kind of music, in fact I'm almost allergic to it, but I bought some of their albums just for the sleeves and having worked as an accordeon duo with my wife myself, I respected them immensely for the way they kept it going, all those years. They must have had supernatural powers and some of their performances... well...

Sivuca 1930-2006

Martin Klasch reports that Sivuca (real name: Severino Dias deOliveira) died Thursday, December 14, 2006.
What a musician! And what a lovely beard! He'll be missed.
