The most popular dog of the 1950s in the US.
A wonderful dog by the way. I have one. The standard is sturdy, even tempered, loyal, hypoallergenic, and a makes a great guard-dog. I don't know why everyone feels the need to cross-breed this animal, with labs., etc. It's possible the breed got a bad rap from the high-strung toy size. Or perhaps, they became a problem in the 50's from in-breeding, and poor handling by snobs who sequestered them away.

Poor Jayne Mansfield's poodle - she dyed it pink and it died.
