Happy Birthday To Us.
7 years ago today PCL LinkDump (as we know it) was born.
This was before YouTube and long before MySpace and - even later on - Facebook became houshold names. Blogs had been published on the net since the late 1990s but had just started to grow popular in 2003-2004 when blogger.com had been purchased by Google from PyraLabs and made the publishing tool better and much easier to use.
Much has happened since. Blogs are not the new black anymore. Nowadays everyone hangs around Facebook (incl. me) creating a net experience that are more mainstream and probably duller than ever before. But we are stuck together like glue re-posting funny videos, petitions and events like there was no tomorrow with the firm believe that someone cares.
How did this happen?
I'm not sure. And I'm not upset. Just sad. I use Facebook as much as anyone (or maybe even a little more ..). And Facebook is probably not entirely bad.
PCL linkDump, on the other hand, hasn't changed much from the start. Well it has had numerous succesful or not so successful re-designs, several contributors which since have moved on to other projects or total obscurity (or just ruthlessly got sacked) and a number of internal bleedings. Back when I started it all there was only me. We are now going into our 8:th year with 20 contributors and more determined to rule world than ever. At least we fantazise about it. But I can promise you that won't happen. That's just not us - the megalomania is.
We march on, just like the dynamic party bitches we all are.

The Bevolicher Stole My Birthday
If some sort of fictitious bit of demonic nonsense stole your birthday, don't you think you'd become immortal? I mean, how bad would THAT be? Couldn't be worse than what these pagans went through making this video.

Theremin Cello: Cool.. but can it Liquify Organs?
We all know about the Theremin, but what ever happened to the Theremin Cello?
"It was also used by the great Stokowski to reinforce his orchestra's bass section, it is said that the subsonic rumblings made some of the orchestra members complain of sickness...... was later abandoned due to the side effects caused by subharmonic frequencies on the orchestra's string section."
Promising technology abandoned because of a couple of whining underpaid violists. Ready for an upgrade by some modern bands. The kids might like the side effects.

Walter Mercado: "The Liberace of Astrology"
clip taken from a Walter Mercado infomercial (c. late 80s/early 1990s)
Leave it to Facebook to get the (gazing) ball rolling about Mister Walter Mercado, Puerto Rican born psychic extraordinaire.
So, yesterday - I am chit-chatting with Desuko about stuff. Somehow, I bring up Walter Mercado. Soon after, on my own Facebook page, I post the clip above. Dante goes wildly insane.
I explain, "Well, Donna (Lethal…Not to be confused with Donna Reed or Donna Summer) and Bob are fans of Walter Mercado too."
Donna jumped in and said, "He's the Liberace of Astrology!"
Dante immediately deems this being PCL worthy.
And so it shall be.
The almost eighty year old Mercado (who now goes by the name Shanti Ananda) burst on to televisions, across the country (U.S.) during the early to mid - 90s. With his tight Sally Jesse Raphael 'do, flawless made-up face, flamboyant silken pantsuits and flashy rings, he dazzled Spanish (and some English) speaking viewers with his rapid fire astrological predictions. I watched his segments whenever I could and I don't speak a lick of Spanish. It was so insane, I could not believe my ears and eyes.
At the end of each segment, he would wave-roll his hands and say to his viewing audience, "Sobre todo, mucho, mucho amor!" Then, he would kiss his palm and blow it into the camera as disappeared in to a cape or a pink fog or something insane.

Why I'm here
Greetings, people of Earth. I have been instructed to introduce myself to you. My name is Doctor Bonkersane, and up until yesterday, I was God. Allow me to explain. I place the blame for my presence here squarely at the feet of Baikinange Overkill. A little over a year ago, I made the unfortunate error of sending Madame Overkill a friend request on a social network that I was monitoring. To my great surprise, she accepted. A short time and a tall drink later, Ms. Overkill suggested that I friend one Dante Fontana, under the premise that he possessed a music library that would probably give me an unspeakable erection. Fool that I am, I capitulated. Again, to my wonderment, Mr. Fontana agreed to my request. The trap was set. I found myself entranced by the seemingly harmless lunatic rantings of the Great Fontana. From here on out, the tale becomes murky, and I can only speculate as to the true nature of my fate. My best guess is that the Demon Fontana instructed Madame Overkill to recruit me by any means possible, as her proximity to my abode was convenient. As I am not easily tempted by feminine wiles, I assume she sent one of her minions to plant a post-hypnotic suggestion in my fertile brain. As evidence of this, I present my experiences of last night: At approximately oh-dark-thirty, I logged onto my Holy Laptop to check my Prayer Groups. I noticed a message from a Mr. Dante Fontana which seemed to indicate he was looking for some kind of recruits. It was then that the hypnotic trap was sprung. This was obviously some form of secret phrase or trigger, as I suddenly found myself automatically typing a response in the affirmative. Before I completely regained my faculties, I witnessed my mouse finger clicking a strange red button where the "send" tab would normally be. Mice fell from the ceiling, and my socks caught on fire. When I came to the next morning (today), I was disturbed to find United Nations helicopters airlifting my house into the distant horizon, and a man with a pink clipboard asking me to sign for my children. To make a short story long, everything I have is gone, my children have apparently been sold to Percy Trout, and I am now forced to live in a hut made from twigs held together with a binding agent made from saliva and rabbit dung. To top it all off, I appear to have somehow signed myself into perpetual indentured servitude to Mr. Dante Fontana and the rest of his cosmic lackeys.
So, right now, I need to go to my happy place, and play with my Paper Dolls...Click on the title of this post and join me.

Same As It Ever Was?
Barb Jungr is perhaps best known as a chansonnière - a singer of classic, lyric driven French standards. Her bio states that she enjoys radical interpretations of known writers. I guess Brian Eno and David Byrne fit into that definition. You are duly warned.

The Philippino Village People
You know I want to fill the universe with the sounds of weird and horrible music, but I can't do it alone. That's why I'm so grateful for compadres like Music For Maniacs who presents this stellar disco album by the Philippino Village People-esque band Hagibis. Thank you, sir.
Ундервуд - Вечный полдень
Contemporary Ukranian music by Ундервуд with retro clip. The title translates as "eternal midday" in the translation machines, which could be accurate looking at the video:
Compared to What
Composer Gene McDaniels died this past Saturday--one his most notable songs is Compared to What, a scathing look at 1960s society. Hell, the lyrics are still pretty relevant today. Flea Market Funk pays tribute to the ultimate version of this classic song by Les McCann & Eddie Harris by sharing the complete lyrics and album cut. Or be lazy and click "play" below.
