Nollywood Babylon

Nollywood, Nigeria's booming film industry, is the world's third largest producer of feature films. Unlike Hollywood and Bollywood, however, Nollywood movies are made on shoe-string budgets of time and money. An average production takes just 10 days and costs approximately $15,000.

Psychotronic Film Posters and Fumetti Covers

While I consider it a bit tacky to link to myself, I wanted to share this gallery of movie posters and one-sheets I recently created as a companion piece to my collection of title cards from cheesy sci-fi, schlock horror, cult, and all-around Psychotronic filmage. Picasso once said that good taste is the enemy of creativity, and with their twisted imagery, bizarre fonts, and sensational subject matter, I think these posters prove that the old Cubist sex-fiend was right.

And just so this post isn't all about me, here's a link to a shocking gallery of cover images for Italian Fumetti comics, uploaded to Flickr by Groovy Age of Horror's Curt Purcell. These images are definitely Not Safe For Work, and require a Flickr account to view. If you don't have an account, you can sign up for free.

Rod McKuen is Sad

Rod McKuen is sad. Sad because in these four episodes of Bat Guano’s SwaG! there are no McKuen recordings. At least, he didn’t hear any. Who knows, maybe he missed one.

Can you find any Rod McKuen in the archived radio programs following the link? Rod McKuen and four weird radio programs.

Africana

Maybe YOU knew about the awesomeness of Horst Wende's Africana before now--but I'm just discovering it, from its audacious album cover (African masks and covered wagons??) to the very excellent tune "Kanimambo".

Music for the Postseason

Big 10 Inch Record has got some music for the post season (that's BASEBALL for all you ferriners out there) from pitchers Dizzy Dean and Don Drysdale. Drysdale sings a song once recorded by Sinatra--and let's just say Drysdale sings better than Sinatra could throw a curveball, but probably not by much.

Lydia Lunch in "Guerillere Talks"

Lydia Lunch in "Guerillere Talks" (1978, directed by Vivienne Dick, Flash Video 03:20).) Each woman is given 3½ minutes in front of the camera - the length of a roll of super-8. Participants include Anya Philips, Beate Nilsen, Ikue Mori, Lydia Lunch, Ardele Bertei, Pat Place." -BFI
