Sing Along With Basie

After the huge success of their first album “Sing a Song of Basie” in 1957, jazz vocal trio Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross recorded a second set of songs lyricizing the charts and solos of Count Basie’s band...this time backed by the Count himself.

“Sing Along With Basie”, which includes such standards as “Jumpin’ at the Woodside” “Every Tub” and “The King”, is a much harder album to find than the first….but you won’t have any trouble locating it if you click here.

Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross

Lambert, Hendricks and Ross came together in 1957 to record “Sing a Song of Basie”, note-for-note multi-track duplications of the original solos and arrangements of Count Basie standards. This live performance of Everyday (a cut from the Basie album) shows they didn’t need overdubbing to duplicate the excitement of a big band. The too-twee-by-half trombone riffs, and the verbatim horn exclamation points are a bit much, but despite all that…..this group could really swing.
