But what will it be missing? That’s right: the Guano. Mr. Bat Guano puts a considerable spin on what would be your humdrum run-of-the-mill milquetoast “eclectic” music program. If you were to try to match his “flavor,” you would find it a big pain in the ass. You could even die in the attempt...

The Loos of England

I knew of a few tunes by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick, and Tich (including the song "Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick, and Tich" which I don't know if anyone else ever did a cover version of) but not of their tune celebrating the superior public toilets of Britain. The album title is pretty swell too, If Music Be the Food of Love....Prepare for Indigestion . None of the three gentlemen look particularly sleepy nor possessing a particularly prominent proboscis so I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that this side of the album cover depicts Dave Dee, Mick and Tich. Go ahead, tell me I'm wrong.

Went back through the Yuma archives and found this great boxing site featuring the photo's of Harry Winkler, a longtime Los Angeles area fight figure and California correspondent for The Ring magazine from 1939 to 1953. He is best remembered, however, for his extensive collection of boxing photographs.

No, it's not a flare-up of tinnitus, every tune you hear on Sid Bass' With Bells On is actually infused with chimes, glockenspiels, gongs, and every other sort of clanging instrument you can imagine.

If I were a peppy radio DJ I'd say "Bells are ringing? No, more like Bells are SWINGING". But I'm not, so I won't.

What has become of Daan Jansen?


He was one of the youngest contributors to the first CD of WM Recordings: 13 years old, playing and singing his own arrangement and lyrics of the penguin song.

This is Daan now:


Last summer he finished his VWO (highest level of Dutch secundary school) cum laude and twice he has conducted the Youth Symphony Orchestra De Vuurvogel (Firebird) in Zwolle, when playing his own symphonic arrangements of computer game music.

He's studying Business Information Technology now at the University of Twente. Apart from De Vuurvogel he also sings in a pop choir and recently has taken up pianolessons. Right now he is working on a popsong together with Sifra Meutgeert and he plans on writing for mixed voices choirs when he will be "less busy studying".

Together with Jelle-Jan van der Wagt from whom we will be learning more next week, he occasionally makes Z News and other videos

I love looking at sites such as LP Cover Lover, but don't visit regularly because of the frustration of not being able to hear the music as well. Les Mains Noires

Either Les Mains Noires is like 20 people with helper elves, or someone who is the recipient of a MacArthur Genius Grant and has nothing but time to post all the great offbeat music. I liked this record from Claudio et les Satanik, which is also my favorite band name of the day.
