For El Klan, Love is a Swedish Thing

Recorded by the the Mexican group El Klan in Sweden in the late sixties, Love is a Swedish Thing is a mix of funk and Herb Alpert sound-alikes. Swedes would be advised to check local charity shops just in case the guys had to leave some of their wardrobe behind before returning home.

Los Rockin' Devils
I first discovered them while watching Amor a Ritmo de GoGo. Here they are doing "Hey Lupe," which they also do in that film. They're still around.

Kung Fu Tropical with Los Babys

If you need more information than the song title ("Kung Fu Tropical") by a band called Los Babys (or better yet, as they have it, "Los Baby's") and where you can find it, then all my hard work here has been in vain. How about their disco version of the Close Encounters theme? El Batman Kaiser that adds a 96 Tears reference? The strangest version of Ghost Riders ever? At Blog Tabasco? Honestly, people.

Lupita Lampshade
Well, I thought this album image was more than enough....then I decided to listen to a few tracks, and was rewarded with some over the top old radio soap opera organ backing up some lovely sentimental ballads. If you have a high tolerance for music Mexican grandmas would have loved in the 1950s, then this one's for you, too. From De78rpm a 33 1/3 rpm.

Ernesto "Hill" Olvera
Inspiration.
The Hammond organ is one bad ass instrument. After listening to the jive post previously offered by the legendary P-E Fronning, I have searched hi and lo for clips of the magnificent Ernesto "Hill" Olvera, who I first heard of from the folks at wfmu
Enjoy the magic

Those Mexican Hooligans!
Mexican Hooligans of the early 1960s seem considerably less hooligan-y than their US counterparts, judging by this video of the Mexi-pop group Los Hooligans.....
