Help find Miss Atomic Bomb

"Her image has come to symbolize the bizarre love affair Las Vegas had with the Bomb in the 1950s. The famous photograph of the smiling model in a mushroom cloud bathing suit with her arms outstretched to the sky remains a powerful reminder of how sex appeal and atomic energy were once inseparable Cold War ingredients. Whatever happened to Miss Atomic Bomb? ..."

Record Making with Duke Ellington

"This promotional short for Irving Mills' short-lived Master and Variety labels not only gives us a glimpse of Ellington and his band in the actual Master/Variety studios (as opposed to a soundstage set), but is one of the very few film accounts of how records were recorded, plated and pressed in the long-ago age of analog, shellac and 78 rpm. Narration is provided by pioneer radio announcer Alois Havrilla."

Rock City

"... Rock City is in that family of American attractions that are akin to using extreme repetition to wear down, and lure in interstate travelers. (Other examples are Wall Drug, South of the Border, and Stuckey's.) Not only is this advertising technique effective, I consider the gauntlet of billboards to be a considerable part of the Rock City experience. After being subject to so many ads, passing by the highway's exit to Rock City can be downright painful. However, if you know Rock City to be your destination then the billboards can gradually ramp up your car's collective anticipation until the thought of arrival becomes all-consuming, and the level of excitement is almost agonizing. ..."

Lusty Pulp

"Dwarfs at a circus are not very unusual, but then what Packy had to display was very unusual indeed - and very desirable to a lot of bored woman!" (found in the gallery for 'Perverse')

Hm. I have been trying to figure this one out - what on earth is it he got???
Could it be a really fancy mini-pinball? Or, maybe, a wart - as big as his own head covered with extremely smooth hair - on his back? Or quality panties from an Italian designer?
Or - I think I got it now!! - the biggest, fattest wallet known to mankind.

What do you think Packy's got up his sleeve. Have a guess!

Basil Wolverton's Powerhouse Pepper

Stephen Worth, for ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive Project Blog, has posted two stories by Basil Wolverton from Timely's Joker and Gay Comics.
".... In 1942, Wolverton turned his cartooning skills to comedy for Timely Comics, which was later to become Marvel. The two stories here are from Timely's Joker Comics and the unfortunately titled Gay Comics. Wolverton's Powerhouse Pepper comics reflected his unique sense of humor, and forshadowed the early comic book version of Mad Magazine. ..."

'Fernando' [Image left]
"On New Years Eve 2005, Fernando with two friends lost control of the car he was driving and slammed into a utility pole. Fernando was knocked unconscious as the car burst into flames, forcing his two passengers to jump out. As he came to, Fernando found himself engulfed in flames and jumped from the car, sustaining massive injuries to his hands back and head.

A brief program of music for theremin

"Aetherphone, thereminvox, theremin -- the instrument is perhaps more obscure than it needs to be. Its invention opened the door to electronic music. Its tone set people's hair on end when they heard it, music from another realm. Upon its introduction to America in 1928, it enjoyed a decade in the limelight. RCA manufactured 500 of them in 1929, but then the expensive and frightfully difficult instrument became nearly forgotten until it was revived for film scores in the late '40s and '50s. It was forgotten yet again until the 1990's, when a new generation of adventurous musicians rediscovered it. And in the new millenium there are virtuosos anew. ..." Poeme Electronique

"VARESE/XENAKIS/LE CORBUSIER : "Poeme Electronique"(1958).
Originally performed during the universal exhibition of Bruxelles in 1958.
A mix of colors, lights, sounds, voices, images and electroacoustic music.
As Le Corbusier said himself : "Le Poème électronique se propose de montrer, au sein d'un tumulte angoissant, notre civilisation partie à la conquête des temps modernes".

The systematic torture of Elise by De Sade

Radio-program Für Elise (early eighties on Dutch classical staion Hilversum 4, later: Radio 4) invited an ensemble in each episode to give their version of Van Beethoven's piano piece. These so-called Elisades (by some described as the "systematic torture of Elise by De Sade") turned into more and more surprising compositions as the program continued over months, from rather faithfull to the original to tortured almost beyond recognition.

Bruno Nicolai and "Agente Speciale LK"

Born 1926:  Bruno Nicolai studied piano, organ and composition at the Conservatory Of Santa Cecilia.  His teacher for piano was Aldo Mantia, and for composition was Goffredo Petrassi.  While at the Conservatory he met Ennio Morricone who also was studying with Petrassi.  A friendship began that would last many years.

He has composed for theatre, TV and movies.  Between scoring movies he also conducted scores by Carlo Rustichelli, Luis E. Bacalov and Nino Rota.  He conducted many of Morricone's scores, and played the organ on some of them and also co-scored some with him.   Many of his scores have and are still being released on his Edi-Pan label.

He gained popularity with his scores for spaghetti westerns, and wrote music for other types of films. He died in 1991 leaving behind his wife and three daughters.

These two tracks ("Main Titles - Lucky Theme Song" and "Gold Glasses/Escape From The Base/Death Of Gold Glasses") are from the soundtrack for the 1967 spy comedy, "Agente Speciale LK" (AKA Lucky The Inscrutable), from cult director Jess Franco. The score provided by Nicolai (Hammond organ, guitar riffs, and catchy vocals), perfectly match this sixties pop-art style movie of secret agents, beautiful women, mad scientists and fast cars.
