You're Driving Me Crazy X 2
It's always a pleasure for me to find more music by the Kirby Stone Four, especially a song that was supposed to be "You're Driving Me Crazy" but is actually a version of Moten Swing:
Which may have in its roots this version of the tune by Kay Starr:

Music lessons, part one: swing
I'm not sure how long this series will last, but let's give it another try to exert my obsession to teach people about music the online way. I will do my best to find a few guest teachers on youtube a.o.. The first one is Artie Shaw. He'll teach you everything there is to know about swing, at least according to Artie Shaw. Please pay attention to the vocal art of Helen Forrest (April 12, 1917 – July 11, 1999) at 4:08 and the fantastic piece of 'call response' right before crossing the finish.
By the way, this link was sent to me by my collegue Ineke Vlogtman who owns one of the most beautifull voices I've ever heard and knows how to play this instrument like no-one else can.

Slim Gaillard and the Velvet Fog

If there's anyone else out there who is as obsessed with Slim Gaillard as I am, you might enjoy some of Slim's tunes sung by no less than Mel Torme, backed by swingin' big band, at Scoredaddy's. Odd, yes, but delightfully satisfying. Plus, I've been needing a version of the Hut Sut Song for my very own, and that's here too.

Soundsville!

Jack Marshall wrote the theme to the Munsters....isn't that enough to get you to download this album of swingin' numbers? Even the River Kwai and Third Man themes are upbeat, the way the Good Lord meant them to be.

Shopping with Louis Jordan
I can't ever get enough Louis Jordan....this 1940s video is one I'd never seen before. It's sorta weak....but it's LOUIS, and that's enough for me.
If you need more obscure Louis sides visit I'm Learning To Share...there's so much on the site I just discovered the 1960s Louis music that was posted months ago.

Harry James in Hi Fi

In spring 1942 James and his band made the front page of the newspapers, when their gig at the Paramount Theatre New York caused traffic jams and riots. Adding to his media profile, James married Betty Grable, the number one pin up idol of the time, the next year. ...
