Johnny Bond - Here Come The Elephants

• Bond was born in Enville, Oklahoma. He got his first break working for Jimmy Wakely in the late 1930s and went on to join Gene Autry's Melody Ranch in 1940. He also acted on occasion in films including Wilson and Duel in the Sun; and was later a regular on the 1950s Los Angeles country music television series Town Hall Party.
• He is best known for his 1947 hit "Divorce Me C.O.D.", one of his seven top ten hits on the Billboard country charts. In 1965 at age 50 he scored the biggest hit of his career with the comic "Ten Little Bottles", which spent four weeks at number two.
• Bond's other hits include "So Round, So Firm, So Fully Packed" (1947), "Oklahoma Waltz" (1948), "Love Song in 32 Bars" (1950), "Sick Sober and Sorry" (1951) and "Hot Rod Lincoln" (1960).
• He died of a heart attack in 1978, at the age of 63. Bond was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999, and to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. (source: Wiki)

Ooh, it's Red Sovine again - one of the masters of the genre, with (almost) dead kids, of course - and a twist.

Accident Songs: Be Careful of Stones That You Throw

This is a Hank Williams classic, and has been done many times, my favorite being Porter Wagoner's plaintive, unblinking in-your-face version on his show. Why isn't it on youtube? I chose one of our favorite singer of accident songs, Red Sovine, because of the glee he takes in injured kids and accidents. As is the case in most of these old tunes, a homemade youtuber will have to do. Enjoy.



PS. I can only imagine the accompaniment to Red's "Crying in the Chapel" would be a fifth.

Accident Songs

I just love accident songs of all kinds. Of course, country music does 'em best, and Red Sovine specialized in the dead/sick kid genre. This one's got everything: a very bad accident (I won't spoil it), a dead daughter, and a horrible "immigrant" accident by Red. He did this on "The Porter Wagoner Show" at least twice (I keep it permanently tivo'd) and I prefer the later color version better, but for now, enjoy in all of its icky glory:
