Lots of new goodies over at Boot Sale Sounds, including this album from Anna Russell.

Cowboy Mantan and Ali's Artwork

Where to begin, there's SO much great stuff at the Funky Stuff Blog and The Museum of Uncut Funk. You all have probably been going there for ages, but it's new to ME. Like this original "artwork" from Muhammad Ali, circa 1979.

Ahmad Jamal with Voices, Why oh Why?

Ahmad Jamal with Voices (1967) sometime hits, sometimes misses in a borderline comical manner. From  Sun Ship

Little Ditty:

"We Like Mambo"

Eddie Bo was a New Orleans musical legend who recorded with anyone who was ready to go to work. His prolific career included work with just about every musician in the Big Easy. During the 1950's Eddie led a group of stellar New Orleans sidemen around the country backing such vocalists as Ruth Brown, Joe Turner, Lloyd Price, Smiley Lewis, Earl King, the Wild Magnolia Indians, Algiers Brass Band, Treme Brass Band, the late Johnny Adams and the Platters.

On this tune, he conjures up a bit of gris-gris and Cuban funk. Great track.

Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallll for Superchicken

I like these rough sketches of Super Chicken by illustrator Irv Spector.  And if you ever meet me in person, feel free to request my spirited rendition of the Super Chicken theme song. I'd be happy to oblige.

Let's just say that this video is causing a lot of reaction among all who dare to view it all the way through. Sorry for the ad in the beginning, mine was for a chainsaw which seemed very appropriate.

R.I.P., Chris Udvarnoky.

"The Other" (1972) is a great, unsung creepy kid movie that's perfect for Halloween. That should be enough of a recommendation to watch it this weekend, but today comes the sad news that one of the twin stars, Chris Udvarnoky, has died. This was the last film he and his brother Martin ever made, and they seem to have spent the last nearly 40 years trying to run away from movie stardom. Luckily, they left us with this spooky gift of a movie before retiring. If you're in the States, you can catch it on TCM tonight.

Mandolino City

Directed by Roland Allard. i found out that this is an excerpt from a film called Panne Dans La Guerre Froide. Catherine's Ringer unbelievable sensational DANCING SKILLS always exert a big influence in my temperament..

Additionally when you come across a song like Mandolino City.. you have plenty of reasons to just fall in love with that particular video (as i did)

Sonic Safari Halloween Mix

The employees of The Discotheque At The End Of The Universe are on strike after one of the girls supervising the Cardassian roulette presumably was eaten by flying zombies from the Alpha Piscis Austrini system. Nogatiations will probably take a week. The management advices the regulars to go on a halloween sonic safari instead:

American Ingenuity - Part XII

My buddy, Chucky Neckman, had one of these bad boys back in the day. I think it worked for about a week before he got disgusted with the lack of a speed control mechanism and threw the contraption in the trash.

When Slim Met the Gipper

I love odd pairings, but this one almost made the top of my head explode. Slim Gaillard talks to George Melly about the invention of Vout, as well as a surprising visitor to Billy Berg's In LA in the 1940s. (parts 1 and 2 of the interview are pretty interesting, too).

And since we're talking about George Melly, how about a little poetry reading (found here ) of his entitled "Sounds That Saved My Life"? Which proves he was worthy of interviewing Slim.

Regional Accents

There were surely many more groups called the Accents  (or The Ac'cents), but today we feature the one below, from Indiana (possibly Indianapolis) and the one above,  from parts unknown.

R.I.P. Hans Arnold 1925-2010

Hans Arnold, the Swiss-Swedish illustrator and artist passed away yesterday. For Swedes my age or around he was probably the most well-known and respected illustrator. His always characteristic gothic inspired monsters and nude ladies will be a part of our souls for the rest of our lives. Hans illustrated numerous children and kiddie books. But his most famous work is probably the cover art work for Abba's Greatest Hits.
Some of his works can be viewed here.

Update: Some more Arnold here.

SwaG! Welcomes Our Space Brothers!

Space Brothers and Sisters! Welcome to our planet.

On our planet we have a sound called “music.” It is radiated to human beings through “radio,” a primitive form of electromagnetic communication. We understand if your advanced forms of communication may not be able to convert this into sound waves. Below, we have Earth’s celebrated “Bat Guano’s SwaG!” broadcasts in digital form (including our tribute to Humankind’s Contact with our Space Brothers on Oct. 13, 2010).Your superior technology should be able to decode the binary files....

The rest of this blather and Bat Guano's excitable SwaG! recordings are here.
