Up this week at Pastor McPurvis' Weekly mp3 Talent Show are the Populaires "crooning their way through the hits of the Seventies. This is a bit of a mystery disk as there are no credits, no liner notes, and little information to identify the purveyors of the Populaire sound. The record comes in a grayscale sleeve, identical on both sides, that simply lists the tracks and gives a catalog number of ‘SLP 561’. The backing tracks are played with a nice helping of cheese, but in general are competently rendered. The real gem of the collection is the singer. The man sounds a little long in the tooth to be lending his vocal talents to covers of Bread, Tony Orlando, and Roberta Flack, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to bridge the generation gap. And if this is Album #9, does that mean there are eight OTHER collections of Populaire stylings floating around out there? They must be found! Have fun listening and as always, Enjoy!"
Thanks for this audio dear Pastor! Soft and groovy - just the way I like it laying in my sofa sipping on a glass of red wine.. Hmm!
