The Bellport High School Jazz-Rock Ensemble

Pastor McPurvis' Weekly mp3 Talent Show has a special 'After the Hurricanes' Feature: "As most of the visitors to this page know, Pastor McPurvis has had to deal with hurricanes Frances and Jeanne and their resultant aftermath. After almost a month of fallen trees, intermittent electricity, and general frustration, things are finally getting back to normal around here. To celebrate the joys of air conditioning, clean tap water, and working traffic signals, we are offering an entire LP by the Bellport High School Jazz-Rock Ensemble. The album looks to have been recorded in the early 70s and contains some seriously fun and enthusiastic performances by a group of high schoolers who are obviously having the time of their lives. The album cover doesn’t offer much information beyond the personnel and the track listing. The only Bellport High School I can find is this one in Brookhaven, New York. A Mr. Robert Fehring is credited as the conductor and as the creator of the tight, faithful-to-the-original arrangements. He also plays trumpet and sings on a few numbers. The kids play well with a lot of attitude. There is a girl in the group that simply wails on the bari sax. And if this album isn’t enough for you, the Pastor has two more albums from the same group that he encode and share in the future."
