Teddy Scholten died at the age of 83
Dutch singer and TV-host Teddy Scholten has died last week.
In 1959 she won the Eurovision Song Contest with "een beetje" (a little bit)
Scholten, together with her husband Henk, recorded several albums during her career, many of them containing songs for children. In the 1950s and 1960s she appeared in such television programmes as the Snip en Snap Revue, Zaterdagavondakkorden and Kiekeboe. In 1965 and 1966, she presented the National Song Festival. (via Radio Netherlands Worldwide)

Eurovision 1966

Eurovision 2009 is only about than a month away, but if you can’t wait for the spectacle to begin, you may find some comfort in these vintage 1966 Eurovision tracks on Belter records, from Memorias Musicales. You may have already seen the video of Madalena Iglesias’ performance of El y Ella here on PCL a while back, and now you can have the song for your very own. Though I'm not sure I will ever love anything more than Spain's entry from last year....

God Loves the Swedes
....or else He wouldn't have seen fit to make the gold-booted Herreys winners of Eurovision 1984 for their peppy version of "Diggi-loo Diggi-ley".

I Love Europe
The Swedish semifinals for the song contest Melodifestivalen - which will determine which song we will send to the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade - started yesterday.
And I just have 3 words to say: I LOVE EUROPE
This song and performance is like a mix of traditional swedish dansband; Heino; a really cheap cabaret number; a Bavarian Oktoberfest (Hello!l .. Heino again ... d'oh!) and Lucky Luke.
The result is fantastic.

Note: I have created a facebook group to support "I Love Europe" and Christer Sjögren. It is open for users in the Sweden network. Group name is (of course) I Love Europe.
Notera: Jag har alltså startat en facebook-grupp för att visa mitt stöd för Christer och "I Love Europe". Denna grupp heter kort och gott: I Love Europe.
Välkommen med support och känsloyttringar.
Eurovision - här kommer Christer!

Come and Dance and Love the Fish!
Dschinghis Khan's cheesy Eurodisco classic Moskau has been helpfully translated into English for your lyrical edification.

Diaper Trouble
The career of Portuguese singer Madalena Iglésias was flyin’ high in the late sixties.
Her performance of “Ele e Ela” (which apparently translates to “It and It”) in Eurovision 1966 earned her a whopping total of 6 points, giving Portugal bragging rights of 13th place.
Then in 1967 the burgeoning Lisbon film industry beckoned, and Madalena was tapped to star in the musical comedy “Sarilho de Fraldas” (Diaper Trouble).
Her co-star António Calvário warrants a whole paragraph on a site entitled PORTUGUESES IRRITANTES (I don't think I need Google translator to figure out the gist of the blog).
You can judge just how irritating he was by downloading side one of the soundtrack to Diaper Trouble.

This photo from the album cover shows them proudly displaying an award, possibly the Portuguese Teen Spirit award or something.

Melodifestivalen 1974
This is Melodifestivalen 1974, the Swedish qualifications for Eurovision Song Contest 1974. Behold the set, the clothes, the hairdos and enjoy the songs and the music! Hey, wasn't that ABBA??
Aha, sure, but what the h-ll is Eurovision Song Contest?
Update: The YouTube user has for some reason removed the videos! But here is another great Swedish contribution to Melodifestvalen - it's Loa Falkman singing Symfonin. He finished last in 1990.
