The Kim Sisters

The Kim Sisters was a South Korean female trio who made their career in U.S. during 1950s and 60s. They were Sue (Sook-ja), Aija (Ai-ja) and their cousin Mia Kim. Sue and Aija were two of seven children of Kim Hae-song, a classical music conductor, and Lee Nan-young, one of Korea's most famous singers before the Korean War, perhaps best known for "the Tears of Mokpo." Mia's father was Lee Bong-ryong, a musician as well.

The sisters arrived in Las Vegas in 1959 and first performed at the Thunderbird Hotel, where producer Tom Ball did a show with Asian artists. Their successful performances at the Thunderbird led them to the Stardust where Ed Sullivan saw the trio and invited the sisters to perform on his show. The sisters performed on the Ed Sullivan show more than 22 times.

No, I didn't say that I don't like Christmas! I love it! I like the abundance of food and drinks, seeing my family once a year: my elderly aunts and uncles, the sweet nieces from Portengense Brug and my dirty cousins from Amsterdam, going to a church packed with people taking flashlight pictures of their family-members in the choir and speaking of which ... most of all.... I think the music this time of year is great, don't you agree? Especially all those bells! I can't get enough of them.

60's asian a go-go beat

Hooray ! This morning i received a package from Japan :
3 CD-Rs samplers generously send to me by Mr Pretty Flamingo. Yes about 100 tracks of original 60's rock garage beats from asia for FREE. All he asks in return is that you do the same with your own favorite music , that's a deal ! His samplers are rips from original LPs and 45rpms , one of the samplers is dedicated to the Honk Kong scene.
I have to confess here that i did not finish yet ripping my own 60's french a go-go beat records ... i am working on it, don't worry pretty, i will send the CD-Rs as soon as possible !
Now i know what some of you might say : he could simply share .mp3 files samplers online ! My answer is : there is not better feeling than to open his mailbox in the morning and to found a little package from the other side of planet earth with unknown music inside !

Asian Pop Princesses

Modcentric presents the Idaly Sisters-- Lolly, Linda, and Elsie, three real-life sisters from Indonesia whose cover version of American pop tunes had Asian audiences frugging up a storm in the late sixties.

And who says participating in the Miss Universe contest doesn't lead to greater things? Lotus Liew, runner-up in the 1967 contest from Singapore went on to record this album of pop numbers, which I'm sure was a huge success for her.
