Nick says: "And now for your listening pleasure, a sample from the biggest and most important new jazz release of 2005–a recently unearthed recording of John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk, recorded by the Voice of America on the Day After Thanksgiving 1957. I had heard earlier this year that the Library of Congress had found a recording of this event, but I had no idea that they had hit the motherlode. Not only did they find a well-recorded show (the sound quality of this disc is clear and robust; the Carnegie Hall ambience is well present), but they found a gig with Monk and Trane in top form. ..."
