No Pim Pom, but still great.

There are lots of tasty morsels for the downloading at Africolombia's Blog--I liked Mr. Trumpet Man and Mambo Rock a lot. My only gripe is seeing all of the album tracks and only being able to download one. So I don't get a copy of "Pim Pom" by Wganda Kenya, oh well.

Here's how the cock is crowing "Riki rikki rikki rikki rikki reeeeeeeee"

Was this album by Marais & Miranda supposed to be a respectful tribute to "primitive native" music, or was it simply meant to be pants-wetting hilarious? The album is a suitable companion piece to anything produced by Lucia Pamela.

Dan Satch & the Professional Atomic '8' Dance Band

The name of the band would be enough for me, but there's music too. Dan Satch was a Nigerian trumpet player who recorded with some West African dance bands before forming his own band in 1962. For my money, the music sounds like Highlife musicians playing a calypso version of Ornette's "Lonely Woman" ever so slightly out of tune, but maybe it'll conjure up other images in your mind. Take a listen for yourself at Likembe.
