Alice Coltrane (August 27,1937- January 12,2007)

Alice Coltrane's first solo l.p. - A Monatastic Trio - was a tribute to her late husband, John Coltrane, who passed away a year before its' release. This l.p. features noted jazz musician like Rashied Ali, Pharoah Sanders, Ben Reily, and Jimmy Garrison. On it, the late Mrs. Coltrane (who was born on this day, in 1937) plays the harp and the piano. This l.p. - as with many of her recordings - falls under the Avant-Garde jazz banner.
