Poon is a Hug

"Poon is a hug, tang is a kiss...."
Did the legendary rock & roll/nightclub jump/R & B band the Treniers really think they could convince DJs of the 1950s to play their song entitled Poon-Tang! on the air? The promotional item above that they distributed with the record would lead me to think they did. My boy Max hears this song as an updated spiritual of sorts, to be sung by field hands to remind themselves of what awaits after a hard day of work, surely a more inspirational topic than pearly gates or Miller Time.

Their song Hadacol--That's All was a tribute to the popular patent medicine of the day (12% alcohol) that probably contributed to the early demise of Hank Williams Sr.--another interesting topic choice if the band were actually seeking widespread airplay.

I hate to think that these guys were in their prime during my lifetime--while I was wasting time studying long division and conjugating verbs in Italian, I could have been following them on the road. Their movie & TV clips only provide a hint of what the live shows must have been like. They summed it up best themselves in the clip below...."It Rocks, It Rolls, It Swings, It Jumps".
