Ernest Noyes Brookings
Ernest Noyes Brookings was born in 1898, but didn't begin writing poetry until he met David Greenberger at the Duplex Nursing Home in 1979. Brookings' verse became a staple of Greenberger's acclaimed Duplex Planet magazine until the poet's death in 1987. Then in 1989, Shimmy-Disc released a tribute to Brookings' work with a compilation of some of his lyrics set to music. From this collection, I give to you my favorite cuts on the album:
Picnic by Eugene Chadbourne
Shoelaces by the Rev. Fred Lane & Ron "Pate's" Debonairs
Elevator by John Foster.
