More Horrors!

Screenshot from Haute tension (2003)

fourfour's got a category titled Horrors! which carries really fun and interesting reviews of cult horror films nicely accompanied by awesome screenshots as well as fantastic audio files from the movies (or from the soundtracks): "Do the Zombi", "I get Haute", "Scaring the Crap out of You" and more. Check it out! (thanks to Cathy)

The Music of Charles Manson

"Recorded in 1970, this is a collection of Charles Manson's songs as performed by hardcore Family members Steve "Clem" Grogan (lead vocals and guitar) and (on vocals) Lyn "Squeaky" Fromme, Catherine "Cappy" Gillies, Sandy Good, Ruth Ann "Ouisch" Moorehouse, Nancy "Brenda" Pitman and Cathy "Gypsy" Share (who also added violin). The music on the first disc was originally released under the name The Manson Family Sings the Songs of Charles Manson; the second disc is previously unreleased, mostly alternate versions of the same songs."
The Manson Family : The Family Jams,
Charles Manson & the Family : Charles Manson ("The White Album"),
Charles Manson : Live at San Quentin ("In-cell recordings of songs and improvs; lots of background noises. The UK label that released this CD, Grey Matter, is rumored to be run by the guys from the KLF.") and
Charles Manson : LIE ("Recorded 8 Aug 1968 by Phil Kaufman and released in a limited pressing (200?) in 1970. ...") all 4 posted as big zip files at Endless Mike.

Week 33 - Celebrities - Adult Stars & Oddities

Tiny Tim is another favourite artist around the office with his encyclopaedic knowledge of oldies. Tim did have his problem in real life but he was a true star, if only shining in the public eye for a brief period in the late 1960s. Here he is in a rare between takes performance with a really odd song, as he put it himself: I wrote this way before Rock Hudson.
No celebrity collection is complete without a porn star or two. As for the Vinnie Spit track you might not want to play this too loud around the office while Nina Whett only are doing what we all really want to do; drink beer and fuck.
pcl2
Before the awful Bill Cosby Show hit the airwaves Bill had tried for a career as a singer for a while. His albums are usually just plain boring but there’s one exception. 'The Horray For the Salvation Army Band!' album (Warner Bros. 1968) with this truly awful Jimi Hendrix rip off. Another one who should have known better than to mess with heavy rock was Pat Boone who did an entire albums worth of heavy metal tunes in 1997: 'In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy' (Hip-O Records).

Note: Some of the links above goes to sites NSFW (and that goes of course also for some of the mp3s)

22. Vinnie Spit & Miss Jaqueline – Asshole Man
23. Nina Whett – Drink Beer and Fuck
24. Bill Cosby – Salvation Army Band
25. Pat Boone – Smoke On the Water

All 5 songs as 1 beautiful zip file

All tracks kindly hosted by Splogman.

"... Nowadays, Superman's symbol is recognizable all over the world. However, at one time, it was not even a terribly consistently drawn symbol and that is the crux of this article. 'Just kind of chilling out' ... Roky Erickson in You're Gonna Miss Me.

"... When Keven McAlester, a former music journalist, decided to make his first film, You're Gonna Miss Me, he chose one hell of a subject: Roky Erickson, singer with the 13th Floor Elevators, the Texas band credited with inventing psychedelic rock.

Erickson was an angel-faced, charismatic 19-year-old in 1966 when he wrote the hit song of the film's title, and 22 when he was packed off to Rusk State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. At the time, Roky may well have been sane; having the fondness you'd expect for illegal drugs of a 1960s psychedelic rocker, he'd been arrested often and pleaded insanity to escape a long prison term for marijuana possession. When he was released, after three-and-a-half years of electroshock and Thorazine treatment, he was not. Whether the hospital had treated his problems or made them worse, no one knows.

Roky's road to success article and interview ..."

This Splogcast is about a part of my musical collection which I normally use when I perform live with my Auslaufrille-performance. In these performances I use loops and the endless groove at the end of every record to create new rhytms and beats.
For this Splogcast I didn’t mess the records up to an unidentified collage, but I wanted to show you the songs and sounds as clear and fresh as possible. So enjoy listening to ‘this is not an Auslaufrille-Splogcast’.
