Yet another template...
Ok, here it is.
It's the Minima once again.
And now I hope everyone (including Safari and MacIE users) is able to read this blog properly.
The template (and look) is not as fancy and cool as the last one - but it's simple and works ok I think.
Now we're just waiting for that PCL dude to start posting!!
;-)
But, hey! that's me....
Stay tuned.
Maybe tomorrow...

Week 15: The saviours from Sweden
These days there seems to be a genre for every other odd record ever made. Here at the office we found a real goodie. Suck on this lollipop: Swedish, Christian, instrumental surfrock. It´s not exactly a big genre, so far we only turned up one track. Recorded in 1966 by Eko-teamet, for their EP on Cantino, surrounded by three really lame Salvation Army type songs, which you are graciously spared. But we´re searching for more in this newly found genre. There might just be another one out there.
Eko-teamet
While we were digging in the old country we found a dusty tape of something really special, mainly for the Swedes. Although some of you weirdos out there in Never Neverland might enjoy the highpitched screams. It´s Swedish popstar Carola Häggkvist recorded live, in religious ecstasy, at a meeting with the sect Livets Ord (Word of Life) sometime in the mid 1980s. This was actually played on Swedish national radio back then, presented by radiohost Ulf Elving: and that´s just what you´re about to hear now. Good-old fashioned shouting for the need of discipline, obedience and some nearly-throwing-up moments of ecstasy. Or is that a demon trying to escape?

11 I religiös extas (In Religious Ecstasy) – Carola

Something went very wrong...
...with this template.
So, this blog is on hold until new template is finished.
Sorry folks.
/Z aka Sebastian
Update!!! In the meantime the old ugly template is back!
This also means that quite a few of the links I had placed in the side bar during the time the "new" template was up are lost. I will of course update. But, for the moment, I'm sick of this blog and all the problems the "new" template caused (and the time I spent on it..........!).
The weather is very friendly and nice here in Sweden. I think I'll have a week or two off line.

Tura Satana
"Tura Satana is one of the sexiest, toughest ass-kickers to ever grace a movie screen. Her role as Varla, the badass tough girl with out-of-this-world cleavage in Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! (which celebrates it's 40th Anniversary this year), is forever cemented as one of the greatest bad-girl roles in film history. Had Uma Thurman's Bride character come across Tura during one of the Kill Bill films, she would have most certainly met her match. We got a chance to ask some hard-hitting questions of this sexy film legend, from her days as a burlesque dancer, to her relationship with Elvis Presley, and she didn't pull any punches with her answers! "

What would you say was your worst out of control, stalker fan from your shows?
-How about people from the convention circuit?Oh, I don't get stalker fans. For one thing most of them are afraid of me. For another thing, my fans know that I can take care of myself. I once had a guy hide in my hotel room closet. After my show, I came in and proceeded to get ready for bed. When I went to hang up my clothes, there he was. He reached to grab me, but I got there first. He went flying across the room and wound up with a broken arm and busted nose and badly twisted leg. The house detective carried him out of my room and then I went to bed.

For the purposes of this article, an eccentric is someone whose behavior, beliefs and/or hobbies deviate in a significant way from the accepted norms of their society, but otherwise can function largely as normal in society. The 80s Toon Archive
'My Little Pony' & 'Thundarr The Barbarian'
"My name is Edymnion, and I was born in 1981. I grew up in what may very well be the greatest decade for Saturday morning cartoons in history. There will be those of you who are reading this that don't know what it means to wake up at 6 A.M. on Saturday mornings with a bowl of cereal, only moving long enough to get up and change the channel, enraptured for six straight hours of cartoon goodness. These were the days before Cartoon Network, even before Nickeledeon. FOX would show an hour or two of cartoons after school, but that was it for cartoons during the week. Saturday morning, thats where all the good shows were. While there are still some channels that still keep up the old tradition, like Fox and Kids WB, the golden days of the Saturday morning cartoon show are long since gone. ..."

Turn On/Tune In/Drop Out
"When a group of proto-hippie New York poets decided to get together to form a band, who’d of thunk that they’d be the precursors to both the folk rock and the punk rock genres? Started in the 60’s, the Fugs were proudly in favor of peace, free love, marijuana and freedom. They were against the status quo and were deemed so anti-government that they were the subject of a full scale FBI investigation. ..."

Week 14: Falling from grace with god, and a dummy
Since the HTMPL Team is very busy this weekend (oh, my! what beast have we created! we have 666 letters to read and reply to concerning our last post...) this post will come to you a little early this time.
It´s not that easy to fall from grace. Especially if you like to wallow in self-pity. If you did and if you do you might as well turn it into an artform for public consumption, like Tammy Faye Bakker who constantly seems to apply it, like her thick mascara under those ever running tears. But she did do some fun records back in the good old days with Jim. But Jim he fell so hard that he had to go to prison for a few years, even sharing a cell with Lyndon LaRouche. Imagine those two together in a cell – the mind boggles. Tammy jumped ship and shagged up with Jims mate Roe Messner. And on it goes.
There´s something about Tammys singing that keeps reminding us of our favourite ventriloquist dummy: Little Marcy. How can that be? Now, Jim fell for the money and Jerry Lees cousin Jimmy Swaggart fell for sex. There´s just too many temptations out there for god-fearing evangelists. If it´s not money or sex there´s always the bottle to turn to in between sermons. To gear you up before hitting the pulpit and telling them lazy sinners out there a true word or two.

Telephone Wire Baskets
"For centuries South Africa's Zulu people have been famous for the sturdy and beautiful baskets they weave from grasses and palm leaf. The weaving was so tight that the best ukhamba baskets were actually used to store beer! Today these baskets are still woven in the countryside, but the Zulus living in urban area have invented a new kind of basket, the imbenge basket woven entirely of recycled telephone wire. The baskets are as bright and colorful as the telephone wire, and very sturdy. ..."

Safari, Safari, Safari... INFORMATION!!
As you know by now (especially if you try to read this site running Safari or MacIE) there is a problem...
It seems that some of you are not able to view this blog properly.
I'm very sorry about this. I've been trying to solve this problem for the last two weeks unsuccessfully.
The problems started with the change of template.
I will not go back and use the old template as it were (because I hate it and it was ugly!!).
But I will try to build a new look on one of bloggers standard templates.
But I have no time and energy right now.
So, this will have to wait a few weeks or so.
Just to let you know.
So, Safari users and you Mac- and Apple people out there: I do not hate you!!! I will try to make things right next time.

For the record...
Dear Readers!
The foundation for this blog is my love of sharing (and the love of finding).
I think I'm doing a decent job. But I do not know for sure.
A good way telling me I'm doing a good or bad job is to leave a comment once or while.
This site has never before had such an high level of page load activity. The Average Visit Length is for the first time over 3 minutes (based on approximatly 700 vistits a day).
But I get less and less comments. I get more mails regarding PCL than comments these days.
Isn't that strange?
It's not that I need you to comment every goddamn post. But if you like this blog and want it here a little feedback here and there wouldn't hurt.
I'd probably do this anyway.
But I get more inspired by feedback.
So, feedback: better blog.
With love from the PCL headquarters

Update: Thanks. I appreciate it! Now you guys don't have to leave any comments for the rest of the year... ;-) Kidding!

Palmolive
"Drummer Palmolive, best known for her short yet memorable tenures with seminal girl punk (pop) outfits the Slits and the Raincoats, sold her drums and found religion in the eighties. She has lived in virtual anonymity ever since — in Spain, England and India, among other places.
Little did we know that, since 1989, the woman now known as Paloma McLardy has been a happy, church-going resident of Massachusetts, rearing her three children with husband Dave. The biggest surprise of all: she's drumming again."
Here's an interview with her. And here's her new site - Palmolive: Piercing the Heart of Punk (note: flash and Jesus!) (via MetaFilter)
Kon-Tiki and Other Sea Stories
"The story of Thor Heyerdahl and his crew's history making 1947 raft voyage from South America to Polynesia, read by Welsh born actor Alan Haines. A Listening Library 16 rpm "Talking Book." Though I have old Califone turntables that will play 16 rpm records, I used my modern turntable at 33 1/3 rpm to record it and changed the speed (pitch) of the digitized file. ..."

True Crime Magazine of the 1940s and 1950s
True Crime Cases 1952 October
"In 1940, to halt the flow of Canadian currency to the United States, the Canadian government banned the importation of certain classes of magazines from the U.S. (See trade press coverage, reproduced below.) In the wake of these moves, Toronto-based publishers moved in to replace imported titles with magazines of their own. The Norman Book Company, Classic Publishing Company and, most notably, Superior Publishers, published dozens of humour, romance, adventure and true crime magazines from the early 1940s through the mid 1950s.
This site includes the covers of several dozen Canadian true crime magazines from the 1940s and 1950s. These magazines are part of one history of Canadian cultural production, of those moments in which Canadian producers have moved to fill the gaps created by legislation or trade restrictions. Their covers form part of a history of urban visuality. In the design of these covers, text has become graphic, and graphic forms have been designed to quickly communicate mood or sensation. As these covers change, over a 10-year period, we see the posed theatrics of the pulp magazine give way to portraits, typically of solitary women. Then, in the early 1950s, headlines, datelines and other conventions of tabloid publishing will become more prominent, as the visual languages of the exposé newspaper and magazine displace those inherited from the pulp magazines of the 1920s and 1930s.
