The 1930 DeMoulin Bros. & Co. Fraternal Supply Catalog No. 439
Page 83 - Hulu Hula Bull Dance [Click image to read and see more!]
"Burlesque and Side Degree Specialties, Paraphernalia and Costumes."
Phoenixmasonry enlights us about this:
"... We believe that this was the last "fraternalism supply" catalog the DeMoulin Bros. produced, as this company suffered the same fate that many businesses did with the onset of the Great Depression. Today, they are one of the largest suppliers of marching band uniforms in the country. In the broken economy of the 1930's, the fraternalism items this company produced and sold were not considered a high priority on the "need or necessity" list of many Lodges. Yet, the side degree specialties that they sold were the very items that increased Lodge membership, their donations to charities and interest in "Lodge Life" itself. These side degrees added to the "degree of laughter" early Lodge Brethren engaged in when initiating new members! We have reproduced the DeMoulin Catalog here in its entirety. Pay particular attention to the various testimonials at the bottom on some of the below catalog pages. These testimonials were sent in by the Lodges who purchased this paraphernalia and they described how it worked for them. In the end you'll see that the wholesome fun... "light hazing," endured by the candidates made them feel more apart of the Lodge and fostered Brotherly Love and Affection." (via Cynical-C)

Old Sad Things
Found in Ageing Audio.
"How appropriate, an Internet radio. It's just a fairly ordinary transistor radio of the late 1960s or early 1970s, made by a company called Internet. It uses germanium transistors with Mullard GET113 part numbers. The writing on the front reads "ALL transistor" and "Internet 10". Like the Ever Ready, it has MW and LW bands, selected by a switch on the back"

A Ding Dong Dandy Christmas!
The Three Suns - A Ding Dong Dandy Christmas!
Basic Hip joins the christmas craze (and it's not even December yet...): "Through December 27 where there will be a total of nine Christmas albums featured for your holiday listening pleasure. Please note that rotation will occur every fourth day instead of the usual weekly schedule you've become accustomed to. Click here for the schedule."
But remember one important thing: Ford is the Santa Claus of vinyl findings for all seasons. It doesn't have to be Christmas for him to keep these gifts coming and coming. So, think about that! It's easy being nice for Christmas and then act like a jerk for the rest of the year. That is the moral of the Basic Hip story.

Elvis Paintings
Naoki Mitsuse tells us: "I was about 11 and living in Singapore when Elvis died in 1977. I remember reading an article in the morning paper about a local teenage girl who had thrown herself out of a balcony of a tall apartment building, leaving a note that said something like "now that Elvis is dead, I have nothing to live for and goodbye." This had a profound impact on me and I realized then, that Elvis was a very powerful man."
So he painted the Elvis Series between 1994-1996. Then he stopped to suddenly make a remarkably comeback with Elvis Paintings 2002 (via grow-a-brain)

Bellybongo is busy these days! Here's another gem for us!
Magnus sais: "One of the most interesting posters on Exotica mailing list, Sem Sinatra (a UK man in Japan) sent me this 10" LP a few month ago, along with some other 10" Japanese LPs, I am in debt, I could send him some Swedish records, but as he is a man of strong integrity he only wants music he find by himself, I understand him, I am like that too mostly...
Sem Sinatra shared another LP with the Blue Shadows a year or so ago on Sem Sinatra's Solar System of Sound."

Sciltian Adams : His Orchestra and Choir
Kristof at Space Debris presents his latest 'Featured Album': "Here's another fleamarket find for you.
I found it in a small lot of library LPs. None of them looked too exciting ('pastoral' themes on the guitar, etc) but this one was different. There were no mood descriptions as you'd find on 'real' library LPs and some of the titles had a rough edge to it. Generation Gap and especially Feeling The Riot sounded promising.
Turned out to be a hit. Strange, though some of the tracks start off in an EZ way it's never cheesy. At times it's positively HOT with mad basslines and percussion and brass belting over it all. Add some wordless vocals by The Choir and you get a sound that I've found to be strangely addictive.
But who is Sciltian Adams? Try to google the name and you will get zero results. Never heard of the man before finding this record, or since. Must be an alias than. The label mentions C. Carucci as arranger but that doesn't ring a bell either. Once again: if you know more about this LP or the people behind it I'd appreciate to hear about it."

Bringing you the warmest of holiday wishes, this handsome musical Christmas card presents yuletide songs – both old and new – set aglowby the smooth, contemporary rhythms of the famous Hollyridge Strings. Whether lilting along the melodic byways of the familiar “Winter Wonderland” or treating St. Nick to a pulsing Latin beat in Stu Phillips'“Santa's Got A Brand New Bag,” their message is clear:

This Godless Communism

The Authentic History Center tells us:"Treasure Chest was a monthly comic book published by the Catholic Guild from 1946 to 1972. Each issue featured several different stories intended to inspire citizenship, morality, and patriotism. In the 1961, volume 17 number 2 issue, the story "This Godless Communism" began. It continued in the even numbered issues through number 20. The entire story is presented here."

The Sound of Bruce West
Pastor McPurvis informs us: "Up this week is a cool little album by musician extraordinaire Bruce West. Not only do we have Mr. West tastefully playing a Hammond Organ and a Piano simultaneously, he also throughs in a Chamberlin for some extra color. The Chamberlin was an instrument that ‘played’ sounds that had been pre-recorded on strips of tape. Press a key on the Chamberlin and you could summon forth the sounds of a violin. Change the tapes inside the machine and command an entire choir. All this stuff is old hat to us now that we have digital samplers, but this must have sounded very unique in 1963 when this album was recorded. Mr. West incorporates the sounds from the Chamberlin into his arrangements quite well. He never uses the instrument in a gimmicky way. The ending of ‘Colonel Bogey’, for example, is quite cool with the sounds of snare drums and bagpipes fading away into the distance. Mr. West was a featured entertainer at D’Agostino’s Villa Nova Restaurant in Winter Park, Florida. Unfortunately, the restaurant closed in 1976 and a drug store currently stands where Mr. West once held court. Luckily you can download this album, play it while eating dinner by candlelight, and experience the mellow mood music of Bruce West."

Early Japanese Electronic Music
A concert series of Japanese contemporary music after WWII given at Kioi Hall in Tokyo. This issue includes unreleased and rare tape music.
Toshiro Mayuzumi "Works for musique concrete X. Y. Z (1953, earliest musique concrete in Japan)" Makoto Moroi / Toshiro Mayuzumi "Variations on numerical principle of 7 (1956)" - same source of Hiroshi Shiotani's CD "Oto no Hajimari wo Motomete" - Toru Takemitsu "Vocalism A.I", "Ki. Sora. Tori (Tree. Sky. Bird)", "Clap Vocalism" (1956) Yoshio Hasegawa "A musical tale for radio "The World in the Jar (1956)"
I found these recordings through my favourite p2p Soulseek. Soundquality is not very good (direct from an old vinyl) but it fills a gap in the history of electronic music. Mayuzumi shows his interest in films here already, presenting many acoustic scenes. He later scored a lot of movies before dying in 1997. The Moroi - Mayuzumi collaboration is purely electronic. Takemitsu's Vocalism AI is a haunting tape piece which really catches your attention. The others are a bit less expressive. Hashegawa's piece is actually a sort of radioplay which really MUST have been a big inspiration for John Zorn's 'Spillane'." (thanks to Kjell)

"'Tis the season...
Santa knows that you've been good little girls and boys and so he has something for you.
I'm proud to announce that FaLaLaLaLa.com is ready for you to come visit.
Before you get too excited, the actual music downloads will still not be posted until next Friday, November 26th.
I'm still fairly traditional and don't like to rush the season too much. The anticipation is part of the joy for me.
While the music is not posted yet, I wanted to give folks some time to poke around. At this point the format of the site is a message board.
I wish that I had more time to really put together a more full site, but work projects and two kids made that tough. So it's going to be pretty basic for now.
In order to view the forum with the music downloads you will need to register for the site. I do this only in the hope of encouraging a sense of community. Once you have registered there is no requirement to post or participate and your information will be kept strictly confidential. But I hope that you decide to stick around and share your love of Christmas music with like-minded folks."

Les Toil sais: "It's my pride and joy to introduce to you pin-up art's best kept secret--Hilda! We never even allowed this full-figured gorgeous mirth quake to become a footnote the in annals of American glam art. I'm here to hopefully change all that.
This Summer, while perusing a local antique show, I came across a vintage calendar from 1965. There were three things about it that arrested my cornea immediately and simultaneously. One--it was beautifully illustrated. Two--it featured a gorgeous pin-up girl . And three--that gorgeous pin-up girl was a big beautiful woman."
